17150 The Shadow Strikes B+/B £75 (4x400’) Super rare 1937 ‘B’ movie starring the wonderfully titled Rod La Roque who plays “The Shadow” a masked crime fighter who investigates men sent to break into an attorney’s safe, he assumes the attorney’s identity and starts investigating, it’s a nice souvenir of this type of entertainment

17151 Hell’s Angels B+ £175 (7x400’) Fine U8 print of this 1930 WW1 story starring Ben Lyon, James Hall and the blonde bombshell Jean Harlow, it was directed by Howard Hughes, who shot a lot of the dog fights himself, as stunt pilots thought his ideas were too dangerous, and even over 90 years later they are stunning still, the story is about 2 brothers who enlist in the Royal Flying Corps at the start of WW1, who are chalk & cheese, one brother is brave and strong the other not so much

17381 Babes in Toyland  (a.k.a. March of the Wooden Soldiers) B+ £90 (3x600’) Rare F/L print of this 1934 Laurel & Hardy musical comedy, Ollie Dee & Stanley Dum try to borrow money to to pay off the mortgage on Mother Peep’s Shoe, to keep it and the beautiful Little Bo Peep from the clutches of evil Landlord Barnaby

17382 Way out West B+/B £100 (4x400’) Brilliant Laurel & Hardy comedy from 1937, the boys are living in the Wild West, who have been entrusted to deliver a deed for a gold mine to a late friend’s daughter (who they have never seen!), of course they are duped out of it, and swear to make things right. This is a very rare F/L print, the comedy on view is timeless, great script, and brilliant comic performances from Stan and Ollie, their timing really was impeccable

16413 The Gold Rush B+ £100 (1x400’ & 2x600’) Really nice print of this 1925 Charlie Chaplin comedy feature classic, the ‘Tramp’ goes to the Klondike in search of Gold, he finds it, has troubles with some burly types, and falls in love along the way!

16605 America (a.k.a. Love and Sacrafice) (runs at 18 f.p.s.) B+ £200 (6x400’) OB This is the 1924 D.W. Griffith silent classic, issued by Blackhawk Films in the U.S.A., this may be the only print here in the U,K,, which I was told was only run once from new. It runs for 2 hours 20 minutes (i.m.d.b. timing) and tells the epic story of a family caught up in the American Civil War, it stars Neil Hamilton, Carol Dempster & Erville Anderson. Here’s one for lovers of classic American silent features, it’s a very nice B/W print, considering the age of the movie, and I doubt you’ll ever see another print for sale here in the U.K.

16785 The Son of the Sheik B+ £120 (4x400’) OB Superior quality Blackhawk Films print of this classic 1925 Rudolph Valentino silent movie, he plays a Sheik’s son who falls in love with a dancer, but when he is made to believe she’s betrayed him, he seeks revenge, it still holds the attention after all these years!

11636 Intolerance: Love’s Struggle Throughout The Ages B+ £120 (6x400’) Made in 1916 by D.W. Griffith it stars Lillian Gish and Douglas Fairbanks in a story of a poor young woman separated by prejudice from her husband and baby, interwoven with stories of prejudice throughout history

12063 The Lost World B+/B £75 (3x400’) This is the first film adaptation of the Arthur Conan Doyle fantasy, it was made in 1925 and starred Wallace Beery & Bessie Love. The Dinosaur special effects are by Willis O’Brien (later King Kong animator)

14679 October (Ten Days that Shook the World) B+ £80 (7x200’) OB Made in 1928 this is filmed in a documentary style, it’s set in Russia in 1917, the fall of the Tsar, the creation of the provisional government and the decrees of peace and land in November. It also depicts a counter revolutionary revolt, which was suppressed, then into October when the Bolsheviks are ready to strike, in the 10 days that shook the world. This is the famous film written and directed by Sergei M. Eisenstein and Grigori Aleksandrov, rare on any gauge now!

16799 The Navigator B+ £65 (3x400’) In Perry’s Movies boxes, this is F/L Buster Keaton comedy from 1924, two spoiled rich people accidently find themselves trapped on an empty ship, how will they survive?

17295 The Last Command B+ £75 (4x400’) This is the story of rebellious Texans who take a stand at the ‘Alamo’ against the Mexican forces, it stars Sterling Hayden, Richard Carlson & Gordon Hunnicutt. This print still has pretty good colour (it was never the best when first released, so this is a good find!), and is very rare!

13505 Evergreen B £45 (4x400’) Jessie Mathews stars in this 1934 musical drama, many books state that this was the first ever talking British musical, it’s still a good watch though!

14843 Corregidor B+/B £55 OB Made in 1943, this is a story about the Philippines Island of Corregidor just after the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese, it centres around a Hospital and staff on the island, who try to treat the sick and wounded. as U.S. and Filipino troops try to hold back the advancing Japanese Army. It stars Otto Kruger, Elisa Landi & Donald Woods, rare!

15825 The Sword of Monte Cristo B+/B £55 (2x600’) Made in 1951 this is a swashbuckling tale set in France in 1858, George Montgomery is sent to find members of a group of rebels, led by Paula Corday who has found the Treasure of Monte Cristo

16752 Macbeth B+/B £70 (4x400’) Rare print of this 1948 Orson Welles production of the Shakespeare play, of course it’s in English verse, it stars Orson Welles (as Macbeth), Jeanette Nolan, Dan O’Herlihy and Roddy McDowell

16841 Hallelujah I’m a Tramp (Bum (U.S. title)) B/B+ £75 (4x400’) Derann release of this 1933 Al Jolson musical, a New York tramp (Jolson) rescues a girl from drowning and falls in love with her, unfortunately she has no memory of the fact she’s the Mayor’s girlfriend, fun ensues! Music comes from Rodgers and Hart, rare find!

17076 The Great Diamond Chase (a.k.a. Popsy Pop) B/B+ £65 (4x400’) OB Popsy (Claudia Cardinale) double crosses her partner (Stanley Baker) who has set up to divert Diamonds from a Diamond mine in a South American Jungle, but things go wrong and both have to run from the chasing Police force

17142 The Fabulous Dorseys B+ £70 (4x400’) OB Made in 1947, and starring Jimmy & Tommy Dorsey, who play themselves in this story of their rise to fame in music, each having their own Orchestra, but both play cracking 1940’s music, and this is the real star of the film, although the back story of the two brothers is played out well

17210 The Naked and the Dead B+ £75 (4x400’) WW2 War film set in the Pacific, this drama and action film stars Aldo Ray and Cliff Robertson, pretty rare now!

17213 Tom Brown’s Schooldays B+/B £75 (4x400’) Rare Walton feature of this classic 1951 production, it stars John Howard Davies as ‘Tom Brown’ ably supported by Robert Newton, James Hayter and John Forrest who plays ‘Flashman’ the school bully who makes Tom’s life a misery

17371 Casbah B/B+ £65 (4x400’) Made in 1948 this film stars Tony Martin & Yvonne De Carlo, it’s a story of a French Jewell thief in the Casbah in Algiers

17383 The Outlaw B+ £75 (4x400’) OB The film that made the voluptuous Jane Russell into a star, it was produced and directed by Howard Hughes and tells the story of three western legends, Pat Garrett, Doc Holliday, and Billy the Kid who all vie for the curvy vixen Rio McDonald (Russell)

16796 Tension at Table Rock B+/B £60 (4x400’) OB Richard Egan, Dorothy Malone & Cameron Mitchell star in this 1956 western, Egan’s reluctant Gunslinger is using an alias to blend in when he helps out a Father and Son who are caught up in a robbery, he agrees to take the boy to his uncle in ‘Table Rock’

17378 A Star is Born B+ £65 (2x600’) Released by Fletcher Films this is the 1937 version starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, the story of a young woman who comes to Hollywood to make it big, she does with the help of an alcoholic leading man whose career is on the slide. Pretty good colour print on this rare colour release

17071 The Flying Deuces B+ £75 (3x400’) Walton version of this 1939 Laurel & Hardy comedy, Ollie falls for a married lady in Paris, after trying to kill himself (and Stan!), he decides to join the Foreign Legion, to forget!

17263 Fraternally Yours (a.k.a. Sons of the Desert) B+/B £90 (3x400’) Superb Laurel & Hardy comedy from 1933, the boys want to go to a lodge convention, but their wives say no, they make up a story that Ollie needs a sea voyage for his health, their wives agree, they go and have a good time at the convention, but when the ship they are supposed to be on sinks, the boys are in big, big, trouble! Nice Walton print

Cohan (Yankee Doodle Dandy), a writer (Cohan) bets his friend that he can write a 10,000 word novel in 24 hours, he uses his friends Baldpate Inn to write, supposedly closed for the Winter, so there should be no interruptions, until people with keys keep turning up, can he finish!

16004 Stage Door Canteen B+ £40 (600’) This is the P.M. Films release edited from the 1943 feature, which had cameos from a whole host of Hollywood stars of the day, the story (such as it is) centres on a G.I. on leave in New York who visits the famous Stage Door Canteen which was open to anyone in uniform during WW2 who meets a pretty hostess. Many stars are glimpsed, and are given a line or two, nostalgic!

16371 Hollywood and the Stars – The Swashbucklers B+ £45 (600’) TV series from the early 1960’s narrated by Joseph Cotton, here looking at some of the best Hollywood Swashbucklers, with many clips as well, Errol Flynn etc.

16422 Magnificent Doll B+ £38 (600’) Rare Mountain Films double album of this 1946 drama starring Ginger Rogers, David Niven & Burgess Meredith. She plays true life character Dolly Payne, who influences the politics of the fledgling U.S.A.

16847 A Night at the Opera B+ £60 (2x400’) OB Beautifully edited double album of this M.G.M. Marx Bros. classic, a sly agent (Groucho) helps promote an unknown opera singer in New York, his two whacky friends (Chico & Harpo) come along to persecute him as well! This is a very rare print

17081 The Wicked Lady B+ £45 (600’) OB Nice PM Films print of this1945 drama starring Margaret Lockwood, James Mason & Patricia Roc, Lockwood plays a noble woman with a double life as a ‘Highwayman (woman)’to alleviate boredom in the 17th Century, well edited too!

17082 The Amazing Exploits of the Clutching Hand – Chapter 1 B/B+ £40 (600’) Here’s a curiosity for you, this is the complete chapter one from this 15 part 1936 serial, it’s got a simple plot of fake Gold, a stolen notebook with the formula, there’s the usual fist fights, deception etc., I’ve never seen this before, must be a U.S. import!

17402 Hollywood and the Stars – The Swashbucklers B+ £55 (600’) Narrated by Joseph Cotton this looks at the many stars and films who have used a Sword in movies, like Errol Flynn and others, many clips as well!

17405 Hollywood and the Stars – The one and only Bing B+ £55 (600’) Joseph Cotton narrates this look at Bing Crosby and his films, he was a much underrated actor, and many clips are on show, it’s a nice reel!

17424 King Kong B+ £140 (6x400’) Fine Mountain Films print of this classic movie from 1933, a film crew sail to a mysterious uncharted island, and find it’s full of fierce natives, and giant size monsters, with the eigth wonder of the world being the giant ape King Kong!

17429 This is the Army B+ £120 (6x400’) Wow this is a rare print, it’s in Derann boxes, but I’m not 100% sure they released it, it comes from 1943, and was produced as a patriotic flag waver in the heart of WW2. It was produced by Irving Berlin and features numerous songs of his, it was directed by famous director Michael Curtiz as well, it’s the usual (for its day) we’ll put on a show for the troops plotline, but it does feature all those Irving Berlin songs

17449 Alleghany Uprising B+ £90 (4x400’) American import of this 1939 RKO production set in 1759 America, local settlers in Pennsylvania and Indian fighters try to persuade the British authorities from selling guns and booze to the local Indians, John Wayne and Claire Trevor star in this historical adventure, rare here in the U.K.

17453 Rome Express B+ £90 (5x400’) OB Nice DCR print of this 1932 crime adventure film starring Conrad Veidt, a sinister character boards the Rome Express looking for a recently stolen masterpiece painting, but the train is full of an assortment of passengers, all with their own problems and wants, which makes it very hard to work out who stole it! This film is also notable for the many train shots from the early 1930’s

17446 The War of the Worlds B+ £140 (3x400’) Fine Marketing Films International print of this 1953 sci-fi classic starring Gene Barry & Ann Robinson, Martians land in California then spread to the rest of the world, who or what will stop them! Rare print with nice colour!

17467 25 Years (1952-77) B+/B £75 (3x400’) P/N: slight fade Made by EMI films in 1977 for the silver jubilee, this is a rare documentary looking at the first 25 years of Queen Elizabeth II reign, with many rare moments featured from the many newsreels made over those years, we go around the world with the Queen and Prince Phillip, I’ve never seen this before, I wonder who released it onto 8mm?

17450 Slap Shot NEW £40 (2x400’) OB New and sealed U8 print of this raucous 1977 comedy, which has a few adult words, it’s the story of an American Ice Hockey team, it stars Paul Newman. The 8mm print is brand new and sealed, I can’t guarantee what the colour is like, but I’ve had some good prints in the past, it’s up to you, want to take a chance?

Held at Shildon station on the Stockton to Darlington line, good colour print too!
